Batch on your Mac vs. cloud transcription

Comparison of a local batch workflow and a typical cloud transcription service, October 2026.
What matters templobe Typical cloud service
Where audio goes Stays on your Mac Uploaded to a server
Pricing model Free for beta users Subscription or per-minute credits
Works offline Yes, after one sign-in No
Batch queue Up to 50 files per batch Varies; often one upload at a time
Account One activation account; never sees audio Cloud account holds your recordings
Export txt, md, srt, vtt Varies by provider
Review and edit Local library with playback sync Browser editor
Data retention You delete local files; no copy elsewhere Depends on provider policy

Cloud services differ widely; this compares the common model, not one specific vendor. Check each provider's data policy before sending confidential audio.

Built for a folder, not a single file.

templobe is a good fit if you…

  • have a folder of English interviews, lectures, podcast episodes or meeting recordings
  • want to leave the queue running and come back to transcripts
  • need transcripts you can export into docs, subtitles or notes
  • work with confidential audio that should not be uploaded
  • use an Apple silicon Mac and can work in English today

templobe is not the right tool if you…

  • need real-time transcription while audio is playing
  • need speaker labels or speaker diarization
  • need video files transcribed directly
  • need languages other than English today
  • need a team workspace or cloud sync

Three steps, one queue.

01

Add a folder of audio

Choose mp3, wav or m4a files. A single batch can hold up to 50 files, 2GB each and 5GB total.

02

Start the queue

Each file is transcribed by a model installed on your Mac. Progress and failures are visible per file, and nothing is uploaded.

03

Review and export

Open any transcript in the local library, check it against playback, then export as txt, md, srt or vtt.
